Welcome to the Maine Writer’s Program. If you have ever wanted to do
self publishing then you are in the right spot. Dilly Green Bean Games is
about Maine and the people that live here. While our company has a
primary focus on games, we also like to promote other types of works. In a
state where publishing costs are through the roof, we offer up an affordable
way to get published.
What is Self Publishing?
When we say self publishing we mean that you as a client pays DGBG to
publish your book and in return we pay you over 50% of the profit made
from the book. This is a great offer for those who might not feel that a larger
publishing house would be interested in their works. You also own the
rights to your material too. DGBG does ask for a 5% finders fee if one of
the books we put into print for you gets picked up by a larger publisher.
What do you as a writer get from all this?
DGBG makes sure your book is carried at Amazon.com and Barnes &
Nobles. We will set up book signings at local book stores that are able to
carry your product. For example: Walden Books does not carry DGBG
products and will not order them, but Borders Books will. We will work
with you to get your project up to par and ready for print. We offer editing
services, artists, and more at an additional cost (but always lower than our
competition). We do not do TV, newspaper and radio ads, BUT we are
willing to if you, the client, wishes to pay for the ad space. DGBG is
currently working out a new advertising plan. Clients make 85% back from
each book sold wholesale (after printing costs).
What types of book formats does DGBG offer?
Books should be over 50 pages long. Interiors are grayscale and black and
white. The books can be in the following size ranges: 5x8, 6x9, & 8.25x11
inches. We do have hardcover options so please inquire.
Payments
DGBG pays clients twice a year on January 1st and July 1st of each year.
Stipulations
Before any work begins on a project for a client a contract must be signed
stating that the client is aware of DGBG policy. If the client cancels a
project after production has begun, they are responsible for fees involving
special services (like art or layout).
DGBG does not receive payment until the book is complete and ready to go
to print. Failure to make payment will result in author losing rights to their
work. Once the book is in print, if the author wishes to pull it off the market
within the first year, DGBG reserves the right to charge a $100 service fee.
DGBG does have a morality clause and we ask that all clients read it
carefully. Clients are also responsible for any legal fees involving violation
of copyright laws and other criminal publishing (such as plagiarism).
